Orthodontic treatment, most commonly performed with braces, is used to improve the dimensions and alignment, as well as appearance of crooked, crowded and protruding teeth. It also helps improve problems related to the bite of your teeth.

​Why orthodontic treatment?

​There are many benefits to orthodontic treatment including the correction of dental crown and the straightening of your teeth, the reduction of the chance of damage to your prominent teeth and the correction of your bite so that when you do bite your teeth down there is no over overbite. A lot of people have cricket and crowded teeth, or suffer from problems relate to incorrect item. Because of this, people have a hard time cleaning their teeth and gums and so are prone to damage. Sometimes the position of your teeth and you can affect your face entirely and its appearance. Orthodontic treatment can also help treat issues such as cleft lip and palate.

​When can I be treated?

​Orthodontic treatment begins after most of a child’s adult teeth have come through. The average human develops their adult teeth by the age of 12 however this depends on how many adult teeth have grown through and the level of growth of their face in jaws. 

Orthodontic treatment can be provided for adults but your options are more limited. You will not be treated unless you have a good standard of dental hygiene because treatment can risk tooth decay and gum problems.

​What types of treatment are there?

​Orthodontic treatment involves the use of braces to correct the overall position of your teeth, the exact treatment will depend on what kind of issues you have with your teeth and your dental hygiene. In very rare cases, you may have to wear headgear or have pins placed temporarily inside your jaw along with a wearing brace. Overlapping and twisting teeth require removal in some cases as part of the treatment.

How long is treatment?

​The length of the treatment will depend on how complicated your issue is with your teeth. The average time is between 18 to 24 months.

​What happens after treatment?

​Once you have completed treatment, you are provided the retaining base and this is usually removable. It requires wearing every night in order to keep your teeth in their new position. 
These are used on average for 12 months, but depending on your situation may be longer or shorter. Sin wires can be placed permanently behind your teeth in order to keep them in place.
